Dull and not very inspiring - I am fascinated in the study of the English language but this book (along with the AS syllabus!) makes the subject seem immensely boring and unpleasant. The book is set out in a way that will send all its readers to sleep, and I definitely don t think it contains enough information to revise and expect to obtain the top grade. I do, however, admit that it s more or less essential for the AS course because it covers everything on the syllabus (albeit very briefly). So the bottom line is, if you are genuinely interested in learning about the English language then pick up another book, any book! If you are a student who just sees English as another subject, then this book provides the bare minimum information required for you.
Better than its predecessor - This book is really easy to understand and in my opinion one of the best books on the market, for example this book helps you with your coursework, writing to entertain, instruct, inform, and persuade, and gives you clear examples of how you can achieve what you set out to do.
E - Lang student - Brilliant! much better than the last publication i recomend this book to any AS English Language AQA B Student it contains far more info than its older version and it makes the subject more easier to digest. Why 4 stars and not 5 some of the info you need to read more than once to work out in what context it needs answering in, lol just like most AS Level work.
A clear, simple student s textbook - This is a well-structured guide to the AQA B syllabus. It lacks an index, which is a pain, and A or B grade students will need something else to take them on from the material in each chapter. However, it is written in a clear, unpatronising style, and many of my class find it useful for reviewing what they have learned in the lesson. I look forward to a second, revised edition.
